Winghaven 2012/2013 Offerings
Friends (and Friends of Friends) are once again invited to the cottage to join our family's learning adventure!
To respond to this invitation and make a commitment to these courses, please contact heycrystal@comcast.net.
Winghaven participants are asked to make a contribution of $15 per student, per course by July 15. Once our gatherings begin, an ongoing contribution of $7 per student, per scheduled visit, to be given at the beginning of each month, is requested. For example, in a month with four weeks, a family is asked to contribute $28 per child at the first gathering of the month.

Tuesday Offerings
Junior Book Club- 9:00 AM-10:30 AM
This year's reading selections will include beautifully illustrated titles which tell the stories of heroes of church history and the Westminster Shorter Catechism. We will archive all that we learn in our bound reading journals. Recommended for mature 3 year olds through inquisitive 8 year olds.
Elementary Science- 11 AM-12:30 PM
Mrs. Jenny Clark will lead this gathering using the "I Wonder Why" science series as well as other books, handouts, lap books and projects to inform us about such subjects animal life, geology, human anatomy, and more. Please know that references to evolution will be deleted from the series, allowing parents to address those questions at home. Recommended for ages up to 8.
Elementary Book Club-1:00 PM-2:30 PM
Mrs. Clark will continue into the afternoon with this gathering of serious bibliophiles who are proficient readers. Children willing to commit to reading 3-4 chapters at home each week will delight in the group discussions of vocabulary, setting, plot and character development. Swiss Family Robinson, A Dolphin's Tale, and My Side of the Mountain are just a few of the titles to be reviewed. Memorable projects and recipes, too!
Wednesday Offerings
World History- 4:30 PM- 6:00 PM
The DVD recordings of 2006 History of The World Conference will serve as the springboard for our discussions in this survey of the contributions of The Babylonians, The Greeks, The Vikings, The Crusaders, The Mayans, The Settlers, and The Founders. Note-taking skills will be exercised, and the time will be lightened by colorful hi-liters and fresh popcorn.
Friday Offerings
Artistic Pursuits- 9:00 AM-10:30 AM
We discovered this comprehensive art curriculum at CHAP this spring and can't wait to dive in! Check it out for yourself at www.artisticpursuits.com. We love that technique instruction is linked to examples of masterpieces and practical applications as well. The format of this gathering is unique in that children of various ages will receive a group lesson and then go into break-out sessions within their age group to create their guided projects. The group will be challenged to plan a benefit art gallery in the latter part of the school year.
*Please note that the suggested contribution for this class is $10 per visit to cover costs of quality supplies.*
Ancient Egypt- 11:00 AM-12:30 PM
The compelling titles recommended by Veritas will serve as our primary resources, integrating Bible and History with some of our most impactful projects yet. Not a course for the faint of heart, as topics such as mummification and the human drama of slavery and sin will be frankly discussed! Recommended for those aged 6-12.
Apologia Human Anatomy- 1:00 PM-2:30 PM
Continuing with Jennie Fulbright's excellent series, we will learn about the systems within our amazing bodies, with special consideration given to their Maker. Independent purchase of the Text and Notebooking Journal for this course will need to be made. Weekly reading assignments and faithful completion of homework is a must. Open to proficient readers with adequate penmanship.

Arrangements are being made to bring in a wonderful lady who will introduce entry-level students to Latin using the Henle curriculum. Contributions will need to be made to compensate for the value of her time and transportation, perhaps $12 per student per visit. In the meantime, please express your interest in this gathering and the ages of the children who would benefit by it.
Bridges and Skyscrapers
Oh the possibilities! An appropriate schedule is being developed to allow for this group which would meet to construct models which demonstrate basic principles of physics and architecture. Class size will be limited to allow plenty of elbow room during construction. Recommended for ages 7-13.
